On February 3rd and 4th of 2007, esteemed scholars, researchers, practitioners and judges came together in Beijing for the 2007 Symposium on the International Criminal Court. The event was an overwhelming success and specifically focused on issues and concerns for China’s accession to the Rome Statute which created the International Criminal Court.

 

Distinguished speakers at the Symposium included the Honourable Mr. Liu Jia-chen, (Chief Justice of The Supreme People’s Court), the Honourable H.E. Judge Sang-Hyun Song, (Judge of the Appeals Chamber of the International Criminal Court), Dean Emeritus Peter T. Burns Q.C. (Faculty of Law, University of British Columbia and Chair of International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy), Mr. Rod Rastan (Legal Officer, Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Court) and many other distinguished academics and legal practitioners.

 

Speakers and participants included a number of distinguished professors and government officials from the College of Criminal Law Science of Beijing Normal University; the Institute of Theory Study of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate; Law School of Harbin Institute of Technology; Tsinghua University; Beijing Foreign Studies University; China University of Political Science and Law; the Institute of Law China; the Supreme People’s Court; the Ministry of Justice; the Legislative Affairs Commission of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress; PLA Military Court; Legal Affairs Office of the Central Military Commission; and the Ministry of Public Security.
